Amman, Jordan: Jordan is set to be showcased to a global audience through a ‘picture-perfect’ FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) event from April 1-3, according to one of the sport’s most seasoned photographers.
Ralph Hardwick has been running the rule over Jordan’s specially created stages this week in order to share the best spots with the world’s rally photographers in two months, and has been impressed by what he has seen.
“In 20 years of covering the WRC I can confidently say that Jordan offers one of the most unique and picture-perfect rallies to be found anywhere in the world with unrivalled photo and film opportunities,” said Ralph, who hails from England and has photographed more than 300 WRC rallies.
“The organisers have been wise and taken into consideration the needs of the media to ensure that Jordan gets the best exposure possible from the photographers and television cameras that will be covering the event.”
The Jordan Rally is the third round on the 2010 WRC calendar, following Sweden and Mexico, and will take in some of the country’s historical sites located north of Amman and through the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea areas.
Coverage of the rally is expected to reach more than 150 countries and millions of households, presenting Jordan with an excellent opportunity to further its position as a regional hub for leisure and business travel.
Hardwick added: “I have covered rallying all over the world but the locations and the backdrops for this event are breathtaking. The world’s media is in for something special and Jordan is going to benefit from its scenery being broadcasted and showcased across the world.”
Since his first visit to photograph the Kingdom’s Middle East round in 2005, Hardwick has seen the rally go through a 90 per cent transformation to produce a custom made event for the WRC.
Jordan’s debut on the WRC in 2008 attracted over 200 media representing every Arab country as well as 30 countries overseas, underlining the event’s status as a gateway to the region.
The media centre will again be located in the spectacular King Hussein Convention Centre which will include a specialist TV room as well as a dedicated photographer area to meet the requirements of the FIA. Specialist media teams will be on the stages as well as in the Service Park to provide up to the second news while a Satellite Press Centre will be located within the Service Park.
